Welcome / مرحبا/ ⴰⵏⵙⵙⵓⴼ

Welcome to the High Atlas Biocultural Database (HABD), elaborated by the Global Diversity Foundation (GDF) and the Moroccan Biodiversity and Livelihoods Association (MBLA) as part of the High Atlas Cultural Landscapes (HACL) Programme, which was launched in 2013.

You can use the search box above to start looking for genus or species growing and/or being used in the Moroccan High Atlas. You can also browse major phylogenetic groups under the pictures below or in the BROWSE tab. Further details are given in “How to use the database” in the About section

The database has been created by researchers at the GDF, MBLA and MARK herbarium: Abdellah Aghraz, Rachid Ait Babahmad, Hamid Ait Baskad, Mohamed Ait Boujamaa, Fadma Ait Iligh, Touda Atyah, Emily Caruso, Ugo D’Ambrosio, Pommelien da Silva Cosme, Abdeddaim El Hajjam, Gary Martin, Adel Merzoug, Soufiane M’Sou, Hassan Ouchaha, Ahmed Ouhammou, Mohamed Ouknin, Said Ourhzif, Hassan Rankou, Omar Saadani Hassani, Hajar Salamat, Inanc Tekguc and Irene Teixidor-Toneu.

The authors would like to thank the local communities and authorities of Ait M’hamed, Imegdal, Oukaïmeden and Ourika for sharing their knowledge and time with us, the Marrakech regional herbarium (MARK) for their technical and infrastructural support, and the MAVA Foundation, the Darwin Initiative, the SGP-GEF-UNDP and the Open Society Foundations for their financial support.

We ask for the contribution of the users of the database by reporting any errata.
